Positive coronavirus cases by zip code in Duval County

Information about confirmed cases of coronavirus are available through this link to the state's information dashboard.

The data can be sorted to show the entire state by county, or you can zoom in to see the zip code level information for each location in Florida. Jacksonville's zip code map shows that the virus is basically all over town already, so remember that it's a good time to stay inside and catch up on some of those online conversations you missed.

Here are a few great threads from the local Reddit to check out while you're waiting for the pandemic to pass...

/r/jacksonville/ on Reddit

Long time no post!

Just wanted to quickly share a great new online community that has "just popped up" over the last decade or so.

It's on reddit and you can conveniently find it at https://reddit.com/r/jacksonville

If you haven't used reddit before, you'll need to register before you can vote or comment on a story. The site mostly operates like a forum, but users can also democratically vote stories or comments up or down depending on if they add to the discussion.

Theoretically, this should minimize troublesome characters and help popular stories get to the top of the news feed. Sometimes, unfortunately, it just means that popular sentiments are amplified and everyone seems to agree.

Either way, it's still a great and relevant online community for the city of Jacksonville - something we don't have enough of! If you know any other Jacksonville-based website communities, let us know in the comments!

Happy 2020 Duval!

Jacksonville Times Union

The Jacksonville Times Union has implemented several online forums for community interaction. There are message board story forums, community forums, even video game and music forums!

The Jacksonville Times Union website can be found at jacksonville.com

The Just In and Metro sections of the upcoming news stories have also been linked to a blog - allowing quick and easy communication and discussion on new topics as soon as they pop up.

This online community has been around for a while, and some of the members will let you know it if you push too hard. Its a great place with some thoughtful people and insightful ideas, but the conversation goes quickly and it doesn't stick around forever.

I would love to see some additional forum archives or a new system imported from the old one that allows long term discussions to go on. I would love to hear what some of these characters were saying back in the 2000 elections.

Jacksonville Craigslist

http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/

Craigslist is often in the news for disturbing reasons. But, for all the negative attention it gets, its also a good place to find items for sale locally - just be careful! Anytime you're looking to buy something used, its the buyer's responsibility to understand what you're getting into, and this is especially true online.

Craigslist also has some social sections, so you know, its another place to post your personal ads. I've seen some decent job offers posted here in the Jacksonville Craigslist sections - its actually getting as many local posts each day to keep up with the bigger online job lists.

Anyway, Craigslist is like the city's virtual bulletin board. Some of the deals you'll find are great, and maybe you'll find someone who wants to buy something you're done with. Cars, guitars, boats, its all here!

Jacksonville Chat Forums

  • Urban Planet Jacksonville Online Forum
    • This online discussion forum has been around for many years and it is a great place to hear what local residents are saying about the latest businesses, restaurants, and news stories. Sign-up is quick and secure, so you can start posting in just a few minutes as long as you have a valid email address.

  • Topix/WTLV First Coast Community News Forum
    • Registration is taking a little longer, I actually have to wait for my email. My first impression is that this is a very active community, but the available options look somewhat more limited. There is an interesting post about the best wings in Jacksonville, but I can't post there right now and add my 2 cents.

  • MetJAX Jacksonville Community Forum
    • Registration was quick and easy here also. From what I've seen so far, this is probably the best of the three. It has the activity of Topix's local forum and it has some of the archiving and content publishing features of Urban planet. The main advantage here is that this website is Jacksonville specific, so its the main and only focus of the administrators and web admins.

  • Metro Jacksonville Online Chat Forum
    • Maybe this is the updated version of the above entry? They look very similar, but this one has even more recently updated topics. The organization is similar, but not quite the same.
